OVERCASH PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

“Where Education Meets Entertainment!”

The Overcash Performing Arts Center, the new gateway to Central Campus of Central Piedmont Community College, faces Uptown Charlotte from King’s Drive between 4th and Elizabeth. This stunning, 130,000-square-foot facility was designed by architect Jeffery Dalzell from the local firm of Little and Associates.

A Classic

The Overcash Performing Arts Center is a classical building. Its forms and their ornament speak in an architectural language developed by the early Greek and Roman builders. From our nation’s infancy neo-classicism became the building backdrop for our own experiment with democracy. In Western culture the branches of Socratic discourse and of theatre stem from the great trunk of antiquity. It is fitting, therefore, that this building•balanced between classrooms and performing arts functions•is classical.

Academics, the Cornerstone of Central Piedmont Community College

First and foremost, CPCC is an institute of higher education. Renowned for its great contributions in workforce development, the college has taken a great leap in arts and communication training with this new facility. The building houses classrooms for visual arts, drama and communication arts, a cozy recital hall, a gallery and a world class facility for theatre production. Using these new facilities CPCC will educate generations of arts professionals.

A New Jewel in the Charlotte Arts Scene

The new Dale F. Halton Theater crowns the Halton family’s great commitment to this community in beauty and in outreach. CPCC has produced performing arts events on its Central Campus for over three decades. Now, with this magnificent 1020-seat venue, built in the style of a 19th Century opera house, the college houses theatre, music and dance productions on a stage worthy of the world’s great artists.

Redefining Performances in the Piedmont

The facility has a 2500 square foot stage, a full fly house, an orchestra pit that holds up to forty instrumentalists and a custom-designed acoustical Diva orchestra shell by Wenger, the industry leader in performance equipment. The stage sports an 18’ by 24’ projection screen and a surround sound system for film and video presentations. The new dressing rooms are spacious, and the building has scenery and costume shops and a 2000 square foot rehearsal hall.

Tate Hall

If the Halton is a jewel, the new Barbara and Allen Tate Hall is a gem, boasting the sound of a much larger performance venue and featuring smart-classroom capabilities. This venue serves over 140 audience members or conference attendees.

A Community-Friendly Facility

CPCC welcomes the community to use the Overcash Performing Arts Center as a full-service performance and conference facility. Its staff is trained to accommodate the needs of many types of presenters, from professional symphony orchestras to small dance companies to corporations looking for a formal meeting space. All performance facilities on Central Campus comply fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
