About ASC

You’re on CharlotteCultureGuide.com because you're looking for something cool to do in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

The Arts & Science Council (ASC) is here because we want to help you find - and help support - what you're looking for. At ASC, we believe that arts, culture and creativity play a critical role in creating a sense of belonging to a community.

It’s why ASC was founded in 1958 and why we’ve been meeting the community’s need to support arts, culture and creativity for more than 60 years.

ASC led the development of Charlotte’s uptown cultural footprint and expanded arts and cultural offerings throughout Mecklenburg County.

Today, ASC continues to listen and respond to the community. As the chief advocate, resource hub and steward for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region’s cultural community, we support the cultural community broadly while connecting donors directly to those making cultural programming possible; and have evolved our grantmaking focus to one that is equitable and provides more financial support to creative individuals and organizations of the future.

We – alongside so many outstanding artists and cultural organizations of all sizes – have built an arts scene in Charlotte-Mecklenburg that is nationally recognized.

ASC advocates for, and works every day for, a community where cultural experiences are within reach for every person, not just those who can afford it.

We’re glad that you’re here. And we know you'll find something cool to do on CharlotteCultureGuide.com.
