Charlotte Folk Society

Since 1982 the Charlotte Folk Society has promoted the enjoyment and preservation of traditional and contemporary folk music, dance, crafts, and lore of the piedmont Carolinas. The Society presents concerts, workshops, jam sessions, and school programs. For twelve years the all-volunteer organization has hosted the Folk Music Stage at Festival in the Park, presenting musicians, dancers, and storytellers that reflect both the region's past and present multicultural traditions. CFS has been profiled in Our State Magazine and honored with the Community Traditions Award by the North Carolina Folklore Society. In keeping with our commitment to "pass it on", the Folk Society annually offers a scholarship to a young musician to Old-Time Week at The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College. The CFS Board of Directors includes teenagers and we showcase young talent each year at our November Gathering Concert.
