Jane M. Smith Memorial Church at J.C. Smith University
As part of Jane Berry Smith’s gift to the university in the memory of her husband, a church was erected for use as a place of worship for the seminary students in the school’s theological department.
The school’s theological department moved from Charlotte, N.C., to the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta in 1969, but the Jane M. Smith Memorial Church is still in use by the university today. Generally, it is used for worship by the religious life department and to house the student body for large events like Convocation and the annual vespers ceremonies, as well as Lyceum events.
The church is also occasionally used for marriage ceremonies for JCSU alumni who wish to celebrate at their alma mater.
