Burnt Reeds
Burnt Reeds is a reed quintet established in 2020 composed of professional musicians from the
greater Charlotte region. A frequent performer on the Providence Chamber Music Series, members of
this ensemble hold positions in regional orchestras, colleges and universities, pit orchestras and in the
nonprofit sector. Performing and expanding the literature (through commissions of composers of
different styles and backgrounds) for this unique instrumentation is paramount to the group’s formation
and vision. The ensemble is also committed to highlighting and performing works by composers from
diverse backgrounds and styles. In 2023 the ensemble made its debut performance at the Charlotte
Shout Festival in the Pianodrome, the United States’ first amphitheater made entirely from upcycled
pianos. The members of the group are: Dr. Dylan Lloyd (clarinet), Teil Taliesin (oboe), Jack Murray
(saxophones), Stephanie Lipka (bassoon) and Dr. Jessica Lindsey (bass clarinet).
