Dilworth Community Association

The Dilworth Community Association (DCA) was founded in the late 1960’s as the Dilworth Community Development Association (DCDA). The DCDA was formed to prevent the further deterioration of Dilworth that began in the early 1960’s, and to encourage a focus on inner city neighborhoods. In 2014, the board voted to change the name to the DCA, dropping the word Development.

Initiatives the Association has taken on include housing code enforcements, zoning and land use modifications, and the preservation and rejuvenation of the neighborhood’s homes and buildings. In 1973, the neighborhood held its first Dilworth Jubilee to celebrate the diversity of Dilworth. The Home Tour was started the same year as an outgrowth of the Jubilee, and has been an annual event showcasing the unique architecture and history of the area.

Other events the DCA holds are the Triple B at Triple C brewery party, Dilworth Ladies Spring and Holiday parties, and the Conquer the Cankerworm campaign. Dilworth Cares, the DCA’s philanthropic committee, chooses a charitable organization and sponsors that charity for two years. Some of the organizations they have assisted in the past include Charlotte Family Housing, Freedom School Partners, the Dilworth Soup Kitchen, and now the New Dilworth Elementary.
