Matthews Community Center
Matthews Community Center opened in 1907 as the town's first public school. Over the decades, the classic brick schoolhouse was expanded to meet the demands of this growing community. When the aging building faced demolition in the 1990's, the Town of Matthews stepped in with a multi-million dollar restoration effort. Now a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmark, the new Matthews Community Center is alive with possibilities and opportunities for all citizens, including a year-round slate of cultural events, classes and holiday programs presented by the town, a full range of facilities for birthday and anniversary parties, wedding receptions and other live performances.
