Caritas Acapella Ensemble

Caritas Acapella Ensemble is an independent 16-member choral group, founded in September 2015 and dedicated to the a cappella repertoire. (As such, we believe we're unique in the Charlotte region.)  The artistic director is Cathy Youngblood.

"Caritas" is Latin for "caring" or "charity."  Our group donates half the proceeds of each concert to a worthy local nonprofit/charity.  Caritas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt organization.  We offer three concerts per year, in autumn, winter and spring, each offering a mix of sacred and secular compositions.

Examples of past concert themes are "Global Voices," with works in eight different languages other than English, including Japanese, Maori, Russian, Swedish, German, Hebrew and more; "Classics Re-imagined," which put older classical works side by side with recent re-interpretations or re-imaginings of them by modern composers; "9/11," singing songs of anguish, peace and love on the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks; and "For the Beauty of the Earth," which celebrated numerous aspects of the beauty and power of nature.

The Feb. 25 concert is themed "Homegrown," highlighting works by outstanding composers from the Carolinas.
