Elizabeth Ross Gallery
Elizabeth Sproul Ross, painter, photographer and teacher, a native of Staunton, Virginia, graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC and after teaching art for two years in Winston Salem, attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received her MFA.
After returning to Charlotte with her husband, Bill, she began teaching at Central Piedmont Community College. At the college she was recognized as an outstanding teacher, not just for her work in the classroom, but for encouraging and arranging travel for study in Europe and other art centers within the United States.
Her special project for the last six years has been a farm class in May that is held at “Airy Knoll”, her farm in Virginia, where she takes students for an immersion into the process of creativity. The arts of writing, drawing, painting, photography and earth sculpture all factor in this process.
Now, thirty-eight years and thousands of students later, she is still teaching at the college, and she is still striving to keep a balance between her passions of teaching, artwork, and family involvement.
