Lecture Series: Imperiled Beauty: Celebrating North Carolina's Endangered Species

Thursday, February 15, 2024 @ 10:00am
Presented by Wing Haven
This event combines a "live" in-person event with a "virtual" online component. See below for more details.

Speaker: Laura Martin

Laura Martin's presentation will explore North Carolina's most rare and vulnerable native plants. Illustrated with images of her watercolor paintings, Laura will focus on the 18 species that grow in North Carolina that are on the federal endangered species list and are threatened with extinction wherever they are found. Laura will also provide information about where they grow and how each species plays a critical role in the unique ecosystem in which it is found. In addition, she offers many suggestions for how we, as concerned citizens and nature lovers, can help safeguard these species for the future.

Laura will have her three recent books for sale following her presentation: A Naturalist's Book of Wildflowers, Nature's Art Box, and A History of Tea. A portion of the proceeds will generously be donated back to Wing Haven.
