Discovery Place Science’s Explore More labs showcase the intersection of science and art by featuring artists throughout the day (10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.). 

  • Explore More Future welcomes artist Rick Pryll, an award-winning author and poet and member of the faculty at CharlotteLit.
  • Explore More Me welcomes Anne Olson, a medical illustrator and co-owner of Blazon Productions, LLC. 
  • Explore More Life features Sophia Pons, a freelance artist who also works at Discovery Place Science and Nature as a Facilitator II.
  • Explore More Life features Aliya Saengchanh,  an artist who uses traditional mediums and materials such as pencils, oils, and gouache in a colorful and surrealistic way. 
  • Thinker Space welcomes Ken Knudtsen, a recently relocated NY writer and artist ("Wolverine") and the creator of My Monkey's Name is Jennifer (SLG Publishing). He has also worked on animation for projects developed by Comedy Central, Robert Reich, and PBS.

Parking & Transit

From I-77 heading South (coming from Huntersville, Hickory): Take Exit 11, Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). Turn right onto Church Street. At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street.

From I-77 heading North (coming from Pineville, Rock Hill, Columbia): Take Exit 10, Trade Street. Turn left onto College Street. Turn left onto 6th Street.

From I-85 heading South (coming from Salisbury, Raleigh, Winston-Salem): Take Exit 38, I-77 South. Take Exit 11, Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). Turn right onto Church Street. At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street.

From I-85 heading North (coming from Gastonia, Spartanburg, Greenville): Take Exit 36, Brookshire Blvd. Turn right, heading East on Brookshire Blvd. Brookshire Blvd. will become Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street

The Discovery Place parking deck is located directly behind the museum at the corner of Church and Sixth Streets in downtown Charlotte. Enter the deck off of Sixth Street, grab a ticket from the automatic attendant and bring your ticket into Discovery Place for validation at one of the two admission decks.
