The African diaspora dance workshops will be facilitated by Tamara Williams with guest artist and Master Teachers of Bahia, Brazil (April 2023). Luciano Xavier will facilitate the percussion workshops. During the workshops, participants will study and practice dance and rhythms of African American Ring Shout, Samba roots African-Brazilian Orixá dance and music, Palo Mayombe, Samba Afro and Samba Reggae.
Participants will learn about the historical and cultural connections of African diaspora arts throughout the Americas.
The programming will address health and wellness as it encourages participants to move their bodies by stretching the muscles of the body, releasing tension and stress. The high endurance dances will elevate the participants’ heart rates for better cardiovascular health.
