Learn basic skills for traditional crafts such as weaving, knitting, crochet, macrame and embroidery-and how to personalize your projects with a fun contemporary twist. These workshops are sponsored by Culture Blocks— a community partnership funded by Mecklenburg County.

Crochet baskets (all-levels): July 8, 6-8 p.m.
Create your own crochet basket in this 2-hour workshop. You’ll learn basic crochet stitches and about the different materials that you can bring into your crochet practice, leaving class with a handmade basket to take home. Ages 16+ . Max. 12 participants
Tapestry for beginners: August 5, 6-8 p.m.
Make your own handwoven tapestry on a lap loom in this 2-hour workshop. We’ll work through all the steps you need to know to create your own woven masterpiece, from start to finish, with plenty of time to explore and play with different materials and techniques. Ages 16+. Max. 12 participants
Wearable macrame: Saturday September 3, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use basic macrame knots to make wearable art, from earrings to keychains. You’ll leave with several handmade pieces to take (or wear) home. Ages 16+. Max. 12 participants
