Raptors Unwrapped: What makes a raptor a raptor?

Saturday, June 4, 2022 @ 12:00pm
Presented by Carolina Raptor Center

Hour long, virtual presentation hosted by Carolina Raptor Center at Quest nature center.  Presentation by Erin Katzner, Vice President of Outreach and Education for The Peregrine Fund.

When we think of raptors, adaptations often first come to mind - sharp talons, hooked beaks, and keen binocular vision. This talk will explore these features and explain why they aren't accurate in defining what makes a raptor a raptor. We will dissect The Peregrine Fund's published definition for 'raptors' – a term that had never formally been defined in the past – and increase our understanding of this incredible group of birds by looking at their evolutionary history.
