Three Young Photographers Exhibit Their Work

Through Wednesday, October 16
Mint Hill Town Hall
Presented by Mint Hill Arts Center

The exhibit at the Mint Hill Town Hall Gallery for the upcoming quarter features three remarkably talented young artists who won awards at the recent Romie and Judy Mizell Photography Show at Mint Hill Arts.  All are also members of Mint Hill Arts.
Samuel Doejaaren, a rising senior at Piedmont High School, is a photographer, aerial photographer, and visual artist. His uncle introduced him to drones at an early age and Doejaaren has worked and saved to continue to upgrade both his drone and his camera to strengthen his abilities as a drone pilot and photographer.  He plans to keep improving his skills and composition with an eye to a career as a professional photographer.
Brent Joyner is a recent graduate of UNC Charlotte with a mechanical engineering degree. He says his artwork was originally inspired by his mother, a professional photographer, who captured images of moments in time with family, friends, and places, images that his family cherishes.  Brent adds that he has had the great opportunity to travel and strives as he travels to replicate his mother’s ability to record experiences with grace. Each of his images conjures memories of companions, great meals, or stories of travel leading up to the photograph. The viewer, however, will see far more in his work.
Natalie Schopen, also a recent graduate of UNC Charlotte, earned a Bachelor's degree with majors in both Psychological Science (with Honors) and in Sociology.   She won First Place at the recent photography show at Mint Hill Arts. Schopen says that for most of her life she has loved capturing visuals to express how she sees the world. With these images, Natalie hopes to communicate a range of emotions that young people experience. Like Joyner, Schopen believes that each photo taken has a story behind it, and encourages others to tell their story through the camera lens.
The exhibit opened July 12 and runs through mid-October.  Mint Hill Town Hall is located at 4430 Mint Hill Village Lane. The gallery, which occupies both the first and ground floors, is accessed from the front of the building and is open weekdays
