You are invited to explore our vibrant contemporary art space and experience art like never before at Open Studio Saturday! Bring your family and friends to meet our artists-in-residence, participate in fun hands-on activities, and create a work of art of your very own. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Start with a Pop
Location: Front lawn

The fun begins on our front lawn where you can grab a refreshing ice pop on us from King of Pops. (Limited number of pops available. Get here early!)

Roaming Fork Food Truck
Location: Front lawn

Check out their menu and come hungry.

DRUMSTRONG Performance + Interaction
Location: Front lawn, 12:00-2:00 p.m.

Enjoy the sound of live percussion instruments by DRUMSTRONG, whose interactive rhythm events raise awareness and funds for cancer and health organizations globally. Supporting survivorship, education and research, and drumming to BEAT cancer.

Meet an Artist
Location: Second and third floors

Visit our second and third floors where artists-in-residence Esperanza Cortés, Michael Harrison, Carmella Jarvi, Tom Stanley, Chris Watts, and Antoine Williams have their artwork on view. Each artist opens their studio doors to you and your friends and family to speak about their work and give you exclusive insight into their creative process.

Circus/Nouveau Sud Project’s Spontaneous Performances
Location: Alumni Artist Lounge, second floor, and around McColl Center

Alumni artist Carlos Cruz and members of Circus/Nouveau Sud Project’s company will perform spontaneous pop-up experiences including break dancing, hand balancing, aerial acrobatics, and cyr wheel throughout the building here at McColl Center.

20 YRS Piñata Celebration
Location: First-floor gallery, 1:30-2:00 p.m.

Take turns trying to hit the piñata blindfolded and help break it open to celebrate McColl Center’s twentieth birthday this year.

Cumbia Dance Intervention with Esperanza Cortés + DJ Luis Minuche
Location: First-floor gallery, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Pick up some new dance moves and learn about the history of cumbia during this fun experience. Artist-in-residence Esperanza Cortés brings the creative community together and uses dance as a way to relieve stress and exercise. She’ll give a short introduction to cumbia, its origins, and rhythms using small percussion instruments and dance demos.

Goldfish Mural with Southern Tiger Collective
Location: Back Patio

Transform our back patio wall into a vibrant community mural with Southern Tiger Collective, a group of Charlotte-based artists bringing creative visions to life through screen printing, design, murals, and more by curating and hand crafting original art.

Make Your Own Mini Piñata
Location: Sculpture Studio

Learn to make and decorate your own little piñata with Southern Tiger Collective.

Ceramic Demo and Build Your Own Sculpture with exhibiting artist Tomoo Kitamuro
Location: Levine Creative Hub

Watch Tomoo Kitamuro demonstrate the hand-processes that he uses to create his powerful sculptural imagery in clay, then get inspired to create your own small sculpture with Model Magic.

Location: First-floor Studio

How to get here and where to park
We’re at 721 N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Plenty of free parking is available on N. Tryon St. on Saturdays and in the lot at the corner of W. 10th St. and N. Church St. (behind Charlotte Ballet).

Parking & Transit

From I-77 North; Take the Brookshire Freeway East (exit 11) To the Church/Tryon Street exit; left at ramp right onto Church Street (through underpass)

From I-77 South: Take the Brookshire Freeway east to the Church/Tryon Street exit; right onto Church Street.

From I-85 North: Take the Brookshire Freeway (exit 36) to Church/Tryon Street exit; right on to Church Street.

From I-85 South: Take I-77 South (exit 38) to Brookshire Freeway east to the Church/Tryon Street exit; right onto Church Street.

Parking: The parking lot is on the corner of Church and 10th Streets, on the left. You will access the lot from 10th Street.

Additional Parking: At the Hal Marshall building, across from the Center on Tryon Street, after 5pm and on-street parking at meters.
