McColl Center for Art + Innovation
What inspires artists to create? What stimulates their imaginations?
Stimulus offers visitors deeper insight into the work and ideas of contemporary artists. These sessions aim to make connections between current McColl Center artists-in-residence, McColl Center alumni artists, and our constantly evolving local arts community.
In conjunction with our current exhibition, New Works / Alumni One, curator Tom Stanley will introduce McColl Center alumna artist Michaela Pilar Brown's work in the exhibition and how she connected it to Minuette Floyd, a professor of art education and director of the Young Artist’s Workshop at the University of South Carolina School of Visual Art and Design, and her research of camp meetings in the Carolinas. Camp meetings emerged from revival-like gatherings in the rural south. They exist as a social and spiritual place where folks with common bonds come together.
During STIMULUS: CONNECTIONS, Brown and Floyd will explore their own connections and the role that camp meetings have played in their work.
Free admission, complimentary beer and wine, and everyone is welcome.
Free parking: On N. Tryon St. all day and in the lot at the corner of W. 10th St. and N. Church St. (behind Charlotte Ballet).
