Discovery Place

One of the top hands-on science museums in the nation, Discovery Place provides ever-changing, entertaining exhibits that foster experiences in areas that range from life science to marine biology. More than a half-million people from all over the United States visit Discovery Place, its IMAX Dome Theatre and its planetarium each year. Discovery Place also operates Charlotte Nature Museum, where guests can get close to wildlife, walk among free-flying butterflies, buzz by Insect Alley and explore nature at its unique location near Freedom Park.

The Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theatre at Discovery Place is the largest screen in Carolinas, standing three stories high and 80 feet wide. Concessions available during feature length films. The Theatre shows feature and special-interest films.

Directions & Parking
From I-77 heading South (coming from Huntersville, Hickory): Take Exit 11, Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). Turn right onto Church Street. At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street.

From I-77 heading North (coming from Pineville, Rock Hill, Columbia): Take Exit 10, Trade Street. Turn left onto College Street. Turn left onto 6th Street.

From I-85 heading South (coming from Salisbury, Raleigh, Winston-Salem): Take Exit 38, I-77 South. Take Exit 11, Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). Turn right onto Church Street. At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street.

From I-85 heading North (coming from Gastonia, Spartanburg, Greenville): Take Exit 36, Brookshire Blvd. Turn right, heading East on Brookshire Blvd. Brookshire Blvd. will become Brookshire Freeway East. Take the Church Street Exit (no exit number). At the third light, turn right onto 6th Street

The Discovery Place parking deck is located directly behind the museum at the corner of Church and Sixth Streets in downtown Charlotte. Enter the deck off of Sixth Street, grab a ticket from the automatic attendant and bring your ticket into Discovery Place for validation at one of the two admission decks.
